Line- Work diary

Evaluation
The objective of the assignment was to capture the formal element of line through photography.  This was a relatively easy element to capture due to the fact that everything is composed of lines from buildings to people.  There was also an overlap between the formal element line and the formal element pattern due to the fact that many patterns and markings are also comprised of lines such as zebra crossings.

Favourite image

This is my favourite image because of the way that the lines of the lights on the building draw the viewers eye up to the roof top which is in itself a slanted line.  I find this combination of varied lines interesting and I have attempted to add contrast to this image by making it black and white to draw focus to the lines.

Least favourite image

This is my least favourite image because of the limited way that line is featured in the image.  I also feel that the colouration in this image is dull and not very striking or bold.

Progression
This was the first time I had used the equipment so there were a few errors in the focus of some of the images but overall I think the shoot went well. It was a sunny day with few clouds so there was very good lighting on the shoot.  I had a second shoot in Florida which is where I was able to photograph my favourite image, this has shown me the value of a varied location as I was able to take an interesting image.

Line- image bank

Image bank

I like this image because I like the way that the lines lead your eyes towards the centre of the photo.  I also like the way that the shallow depth of field has been incorporated in order to create focus on the string in the foreground of the image opposed to the water in the images background.

I like the way that the lines in this image draw you into the photo it gives it depth.  I also like the way that the image has been framed in a way which stops the viewer from being able to see what the lines are leading to and therefore creating a sense of mystery in the image.  The monochrome contrasting colours of black and white also help to create a bold eye catching image.

I like this image due to the way that the horizontal leading line draws you into the photo and gives the image a sense of power which is very effective when combined with the imagery of the old tree.  The way that the power is used to showcase the grandeur of the old tree conveys the fact that nature is powerful to the viewer.

I like the way that the winding river creates a feeling of calm which is amplified by the green and blue colouration as these colours have connotations of calmness.  The curved line of the image also draws the viewer into the image.

I like the way that the converging lines draw you into the photo and the way in which the light trails of the car headlights show the passing of time in the image.

Define- Lines

Lines
Dictionary definition- a long narrow mark or band.
Personal definition- a marking which connects two points.

Horizontal line- a line that follows the horizon and creates a tranquil feeling for the viewer.

Vertical line- a line that goes up or down and often symbolises power and strength.

Diagonal line- a slanted line that goes across the picture often creates imagery of movement and action.

Curved line- a wavy line that flows freely often represents quietness and is associated with sensual views.

Converging line- two lines which slant inwards and move closer together to create depth and draw the viewer into the image.

Leading line- any type of line which leads the viewers eye to something in the image.

Line- Mind map

Line- Straight images

This image appeals to me because of the way that the vertical lines carry connotations of power which is amplified by the black and white editing.

I like the way that my form breaks up the neat lines of the floor tiles as well as the way that my red top breaks away from the monochrome colour scheme of the image.

I like the way that this image's shallow depth of field blurs the brick work in the images foreground and the lines guide the viewers eye down the image.

I like the way that the diagonal lines create a bright colourful image to experiment with this I decided to alter the image hue and saturation, I found the results interesting.
